Sorted 2025 Wrapped Year-End Review

From Spotify to YouTube, even Duolingo, everyone’s doing a year-end review. It’s a fun, and surprisingly insightful way to glance back at trends over the year. At Sorted, these trends often show up in the must-have products we relied on to corral chaos into organization, in the expanded services we offered to meet our clients’ evolving needs, and in the gracious clients who became like family as they tackled their homes room by room to get everything Sorted. Today, we’re sharing the biggest trends we saw this year and the takeaways you can bring into your own home as you head into 2026.

1. Small Spaces Aren’t the Problem, Systems Are

Whether it was a shotgun home in the Marigny or a creole cottage Uptown, our team noticed the same pattern: lack of space was rarely the true issue. What made the biggest difference was having clear zones, consistent categories, and products that supported the way each family actually lives.

Takeaway for 2026:
Before buying more bins or shelving, ask: Is everything in this space easy to reach, easy to put back, and easy to understand? If not, the solution is a system, not square footage.

2. The Most Overwhelming Clutter Wasn’t Physical

Yes, we cleared mountains of pantry items and sorted countless clothes, but the clutter that stressed people out the most was deferred decisions:

  • half-started projects

  • paperwork piles

  • digital chaos

  • sentimental items tucked away “for later”

These weren’t taking up the most space, but they took the most energy.

Takeaway for 2026:
Choose one “lingering decision” each week to resolve. Over a year, that’s 52 weight-off-your-shoulders wins.

Decorative floating shelf over a desk with four linen drawers.
Planner spiral notebook with a pen and paper calendar open to January on a desk with succulent plants and a cup of tea nearby.
Desktop hanging file folder organizer, white shelf, and paper calendar.

3. PANTRIES + LAUNDRY ROOMS Won 2025’s “Most Requested Makeover”

This year more clients than ever asked for help in spaces that directly support daily routines. Pantries carry the load for busy families cooking at home, and laundry rooms often double as storage for cleaning supplies, backstock, linens, and overflow household items.

Very neat and organized laundry room cabinets and drawers with labeled canisters, bins, and baskets containing laundry supplies.

When these spaces were crowded or unclear, clients told us it made everyday life feel harder: meal prep took longer, groceries disappeared into the abyss, and laundry piled up faster. But when we reworked the layout, clarified categories, and added the right products, the impact was immediate. Clients experienced:

  • smoother meal planning

  • quicker grocery restocking

  • easier routines

  • less visual clutter in high-use areas

Takeaway for 2026:
Start with the spaces that support your home’s daily rhythm. A well-organized pantry or laundry room creates ripple effects you’ll feel every single day.

4. Decluttering Is Easier With a Deadline

We saw the biggest success when clients had a motivating timeline: a move, a remodel, a baby on the way, or even just the start of a new season.

When a project has a clear finish line, decisions become easier and momentum picks up, fast.

Takeaway for 2026:
Give yourself mini-deadlines throughout the year, like:

  • “Prep the pantry before the first day of school.”

  • “Refresh the bathroom before Mardi Gras guests arrive.”

  • “Sort kids’ keepsakes before summer break.”

5. Sustainable Organizing Is Here to Stay

More clients asked us to reduce waste, donate thoughtfully, repurpose items creatively, and choose durable storage solutions. Sustainability isn’t a trend, it is a priority.

Takeaway for 2026:
Adopt the “1-in, 1-out” habit, choose quality over quantity, and donate items as soon as you realize you’re not using them.

6. A Tidy Space Makes Life Feel More Manageable

This year reminded us again and again that organizing isn’t about perfection. It’s about peace. Clients told us they felt:

  • less anxious walking into their homes

  • more motivated to take care of themselves

  • more confident hosting

  • more patient with their families

  • more in control of their schedules

The impact extends far beyond the bins.

Takeaway for 2026:
Focus on creating ease, not creating Pinterest-perfect spaces.

Looking Ahead: 5 Simple Organizing Resolutions for 2026

Consider choosing one (or all!) of these as you move into the new year:

  1. Choose a monthly micro-project, a drawer, a shelf, a small closet.

  2. Build a 10-minute reset routine at the end of each day.

  3. Audit your home seasonally to stay ahead of clutter, and stay tuned for our annual 40 Day Decluttering Challenge following Mardi Gras.

  4. Simplify your shopping habits to reduce incoming items.

  5. Create a home for the things that matter and let go of the rest.
